Important Passport Information

Payment Methods & Details

Please review the below information carefully as failure to do so could result in a delay of your requested services.

Consular Fees for U.S. Embassy Bangkok and Consulate General Chiang Mai are paid by one of the two following methods:

1. Onsite during an appointment at the U.S. Embassy Bangkok or Consulate General Chiang Mai:

  • U.S. Dollars or Thai Baht (Old and/or damaged currency cannot be accepted)
  • Most major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover)
  • Debit Cards from most major U.S. banks (Other foreign debit cards are NOT accepted)

IMPORTANT: Only the bearer of a Credit or Debit card is permitted to present the card for payment. Payment cannot be accepted via phone. There are no ATM services available at the Embassy or Consulate.

Appointments & Locations

If you wish to apply in person, make an appointment using our ACS Appointment System Website. Available appointments are indicated by a link on the calendar date. Please note that our appointments open on a rolling basis. If you do not see an open appointment, please check back at a later date.

Most passport renewals for adults do not require an in-person appearance. You are eligible to renew your passport by mail.  Passport processing times can take up to 6-8 weeks. Click here to see if you are eligible for a passport renewal by mail in.

The entrance to ACS is located at 95 Wireless Road in Bangkok, opposite the main Embassy Building.  The closest BTS Skytrain stop is Phloen Chit.  Our address is:

The Consulate is located in Chiang Mai City at 131 Moo 4, Chiang Mai – Lampang Superhighway Road, Nongpakrang, Mueang, Chiang Mai 50000. Google map. Please note that there is no public parking available at the Consulate.

 

 

Security Information

Embassy security procedures require that all visitors receive a security inspection. You will be allowed to check one cell phone at the Embassy gate but the US Embassy and local guards are not liable for any loss or damage to your cell phone while it is checked.  You will NOT be allowed to enter the U.S. Embassy for your appointment carrying any of the following items:

  • Any other battery-operated or electronic devices such as computer tablets, digital diaries, pagers, cameras, audio/video cassettes, compact discs, MP3s, floppy disks, laptops, or portable music players.
  • Any oversize shoulder bags or purses.
  • Any oversize handbags and travel bags, large back-packs, briefcases, or suitcases. Applicants can only carry in clear bags containing papers needed for their appointment
  • Any food item (a coffee stand with snacks is available).
  • Sealed envelopes or packages.
  • Cigarettes / cigars / match boxes / lighters.
  • Any sharp objects such as scissors, pen knives or nail files.
  • Weapons or explosive materials of any kind.

The list provided above is not exhaustive. Other items may be prohibited at the discretion of security staff.  Other than the one allowed cell phone, the US Embassy will not accept the storage of any of the above prohibited items.  You will have to make alternate arrangements to store these items before you enter the Embassy.

Tips to make your visit easier and more productive:

  • Please have all necessary forms/documentation completed and ready to present to an Embassy official.
  • Bring a printed copy of your appointment confirmation page.
  • Have your Passport and/or government-issued ID ready and easily accessible.
  • Bring no more than one small electronic device, such as a cell phone or MP3 player – do not bring laptops or photographic equipment –and have the device out and ready to present to the security guard before you enter the screening area.
  • Check in at Window 2 and give our staff a copy of your appointment confirmation printout upon arrival in our waiting room.
  • Feel free to use the telephone by the guard booth. Dial x4000 to reach an English-speaking Embassy employee if you have any questions.”
  • If you choose to bike to the Embassy, please note that due to security regulations you will not be able to park your bike near the Embassy entrance along Wireless Road. You may be able to find another location to lock your bike at another building in the vicinity.

Reasonable Accommodation

If you need reasonable accommodation for your appointment, we encourage you to request your accommodation immediately once you schedule your appointment. We make every effort to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities and medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations vary, depending on the situation and the person’s needs.
Examples of accommodations include, but are not limited to:

  • If you require a private appointment due to a medical condition or disability, we may schedule an alternative time for you to come in for your interview.
  • If you or your child has special needs that requires a private appointment in a quiet space without distractions, we may schedule an alternative time for you or your family to come in for your interview.
  • If you are unable to speak, you may be allowed to respond to questions in an agreed-upon nonverbal manner such as using pen and paper.
  • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter to translate during the interview if needed.
  • If you have low vision, we may provide you with communications in large print.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints because of a medical condition, including birth defects, physical deformities, skin conditions, you may qualify for a fingerprint waiver for certain fingers.

  • Interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as having a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.
