U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
7 MINUTE READ

With more than 60,000 employees, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is one of the world’s largest law enforcement organizations and is charged with keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. while facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

As the United States’ first unified border entity, CBP takes a comprehensive approach to border management and control, combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated and supportive activity.

In Thailand, Vietnam, and the wider Mekong Region, CBP  works through its Attaché Office at U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Deputy Attaché Office at U.S. Embassy Hanoi, and Container Security Initiative Office at Thailand’s Laem Chabang Seaport to protect U.S. borders by working with partners in the region to implement programs and initiatives that combat terrorism, the smuggling of contraband, and the evasion of U.S. duties while also promoting global border security, non-proliferation, immigration enforcement, and effective risk management for trade and travel.

To move these efforts forward, the CBP offices in the Mekong region  work closely with and support counterparts from the Royal Thai Government, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and  other groups in the region through  information sharing, joint operations, and the promotion of CBP’s international initiatives.
