Economic Section
2 MINUTE READ

The Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok advances U.S. economic interests and fosters strong bilateral economic ties with Thailand.  Its primary focus is on promoting balanced trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two nations. The section works closely with Thai government agencies, U.S. and Thai businesses, and private sector stakeholders to address key economic issues, including market access and regulatory transparency.

In addition to trade and investment, the Economic Section engages in policy discussions on broader economic challenges such as energy security, science and technology, and developing the digital economy. It monitors economic, financial, energy, trade, investment, and labor trends in Thailand and provides analysis to inform U.S. policymakers on developments in Thailand and the region in addition to representing and explaining U.S. government views on bilateral and multilateral economic issues to the Thai government and the public. The section also collaborates with Thai counterparts to advance shared priorities, such as combating illicit finance and scam centers, enhancing supply chain resilience, and promoting innovation and prosperity.

The Counselor for Economic Affairs is designated as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).  U.S. diplomats working in the Economic Section represent the United States at UNESCAP meetings.
