Q: What can I do if I forgot my password or/and secret questions? 

Firstly, please click ‘Forgot Password’ and answer your secret questions to reset your password.

After the third failure, your account will be temporarily locked, and you will be unable to attempt logging in for 30 minutes.  Once your account is unlocked, please put the correct username (email address) and password.  If you do not remember your password, you can reset the password by clicking ‘Forgot Password’ and answering the 3 secret questions that you chose when you first set up the ERA account.

If you forget your password and secret answers, you must create a new ERA account with a different email address. Please remember your username, password, and secret answers. WE CANNOT ASSIST YOU with resetting your password.

 

Q: Do I need a Thai residency permit to work at the U.S. Mission in Thailand if I am not a Thai citizen? 

If you are a USEFM, AEFM, EFM or MOH, you are required to submit your sponsor’s travel orders confirming their assignment to the U.S. Mission in Thailand.

If you are NOT USEFM, AEFM, EFM or MOH, you are required to submit the proper visa, and a Thai Residency Permit (Long-term stay permit) is mandatory when applying for any positions in the U.S. Mission Thailand. This must be submitted along with your online application by the position’s closing date.

Please note that the U.S. Embassy will not assist selected candidates to obtain a Thai residency permit.

Q: Can I apply for a job at the Embassy by submitting my resume to the recruitment email? 

No, you are required to submit your application only through the U.S. Embassy’s homepage using the online application system (ERA). You must create an ERA account, complete the online form, and upload all required documents to apply for jobs on the Embassy’s website.

 

Q: What criteria does the recruitment team use to screen my application? 

Each job vacancy announcement includes specific criteria for consideration, as follows:

Type of candidates: Please ensure you are eligible to apply for the position. To learn more about eligibility, click Who May Apply.

Qualification requirements: You must meet all the requirements of the position (such as education, experience, language proficiency, skills and abilities, and job knowledge) to be considered. For example, if the position requires proficiency in both Thai and English, you must indicate your proficiency in both languages in your online application.

Required documents: Different positions may require different supporting documents. Please review your application packet before submitting. For example, if the position requires a valid Thai driver’s license, you must upload a copy of your driver license(s) to be considered for the position.

It is your responsibility to clarify all qualification requirements and upload all required documents by the deadline of each vacancy announcement. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet all qualification requirements and upload all required documents by the deadline specified in each vacancy announcement.

 

Q: How do I describe my work experience? 

Please provide all of your work experience relevant to the position. It is important to clearly clarify your work responsibility in a truthful statement. Start with your most current or recent job and work backward. If you do not work every day have an irregular work schedule (intermittent), you may indicate an average number of working hours per week. Lunch hour or other break times should not be included in your work hours. Be sure to include all self-employment, internships, or unpaid work experience.

Q: Can I complete the online application in Thai?
No, you must complete the online application form accurately and completely in English.

 

Q: Do I need to specify my Thai language skills if I am a Thai citizen?
Yes, nearly all positions require proficiency in Thai. All applicants must clearly indicate all language skills required for the job, with most roles requiring proficiency in both Thai and English.

 

Q: Can I submit an online application without a valid TOEIC scores (listening & reading)? 

Yes, you can. If you are selected for an interview, HR will invite you to take an online English Placement Test (EPT).

 

Q: Can I apply for more than one position at the same time? 

Yes, you can apply for multiple positions if you meet all qualifications of each vacancy announcement. This includes positions that you were previously interviewed for but were not selected. However, please avoid submitting applications in multiple browser windows at the same time, as this may cause technical errors. It’s best to complete one application at a time.

 

Q: There is no specific option for my document, such as a name change certification. How do I submit it? 

Please select the “Other document” option and then enter the specific name of the document such as “Name change certification” in the Document Description field.

 

Q: How soon will I be contacted the Embassy regarding a position I applied for? 

Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. If you do not hear from us within two months after the closing date of the position, it is likely that the position has been filled.

 

Q: Can I make changes to my online application or add/remove supporting documents? 

Yes, you can edit your application and update supporting documents before the closing date of the vacancy announcement. After the closing date, you will no longer be able to access or make changes to the application.

 

Q: How can I withdraw my application if I no longer want to be considered for the position I applied for? 

Prior to the closing date, you can withdraw your application by clicking ‘Dashboard’ to view all positions that you have applied for and select ‘Withdraw Application’ for the position you do not want to continue. However, if it is after the closing date, you no longer have access to your online application, please inform us by sending an email to bkkrecruitment@state.gov and provide your name, the vacancy announcement number of the position and reason that you would like to withdraw your application.

 

Q: How can I reapply for a position after withdrawing my application?

You can re-apply for the position within the closing date of the vacancy announcement. On the ‘Dashboard’ page, click ‘Edit Application’ for the position which you want to re-apply. Then, click ‘Edit’ at the ‘Series, Grade, Location’ section, and click ‘Re-apply’ button under ‘Grade’, and click ‘Save’.

 

Q: Can I apply for a job at the U.S. Mission if my relative works at the same U.S. Mission? 

Yes, you can apply as long as there are no issues related to nepotism or conflicts of interest. You must disclose in your online application if a relative is currently employed at the U.S. Mission Thailand.

 

Examples of nepotism or conflict of interest situations:

  • A family member or household member would be in a position to supervise (directly or indirectly), assign work to, or jointly manage government resources with the other.
  • A family member or household member would have a continuing and substantive working relationship with the other, or be responsible for assigning, reviewing, or approving the other’s work.

Definitions:

  • Family Member: Individuals related by marriage or blood such as husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, half-sister.
  • Household Member: Individual who resides with the employee, or anyone defined as a family member in a paragraph above.

Q: Will I be paid in U.S. dollars if I am Thai? 

No. An Ordinarily Resident (OR) employee is compensated based on the local compensation plan which paid in Thai currency.

An ordinarily resident is: A Thai citizen or a foreign national or a U.S. citizen who is resides in Thailand, has legal, permanent resident status, and is subject to host country employment and tax laws.

 

Q: Do I have hiring preference if I am a U.S. Veteran? 

No, not automatically.  Only qualified AEFM/USEFM who is also a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran is entitled to hiring preference.

Hiring preference order is as below:

  1. AEFM / USEFM who is a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran
  2. AEFM / USEFM (Not a veteran)
  3. FS on LWOP (Current Foreign Service employees on approved Leave Without Pay.)

Q: How many times can I invoke hiring preference as an AEFM/USEFM who is also a Veteran? 

If your veterans preference status was a determining factor for a current or previously held position within the same agency at the same post (under the same assignment), you will have only be eligible for the AEFM/USEFM preference if you apply for another position in the same agency at your post unless you have a 90-day break in service or more. In short, you can invoke the preference only one time for the same agency at the same post within the same assignment if there is no break in service for 90 days or more.

 

Q: If I invoke for an AEFM/USEFM Veteran hiring preference and I am not selected for the position, will it be counted against my eligibility? 

No, it does not. It will be counted when you accept a job offer.
